Why do people think having blonde hair and blue eyes automatically makes a person attractive?

Every time I hear (usually, white) people describe a person on tv (usually dating shows like Next or Date my Mom), they say "he/she has blonde hair and blue eyes" and nothing else. The person could be as ugly as sin, but because of their eye and hair coloring, it's okay. WTF?

I know Blonde/Blue types that look like they've been beat with the ugly stick - twice! But it's usually assumed that people on those types of shows are somewhat attractive, or else they wouldn't be on the show. They screen! Anyways - usually if somebody is talking about somebody from one of those shows - and they're blonde/blue - they probably are attractive to a certain degree. If they were black/brown - you could probably safely assume they are attractive also.

Ok fortunatly I don't think it makes you automatically attractive but in defense of my self being blond haired and blue eyed I could call that being racist against white people. It is only an opinion that every race has about itself. In some countries fat woman are considered very attractive, in other countries other distinctive features make a person thought of as attractive. It 's kinda like saying that you want a man who is tall with broad shoulders. That guy could be uuugllly but the first thought is that he is desirable because of those features. Strangely enough I recall less male stars of blond and blue eyed look, but I know they're there, some one else can post on this. Even then, you see the hypocrisy of the male dominated institutions, from Hollywood all the way to the Nazi hierarchy, where men with black hair and less than Aryan ancestry still hold up this myth that the Lighter and Bluer, the Better and Truer.

Obviously, someone values those traits above others if he thinks that "blond and blue-eyed" is enough of a description to convey that the person he is describing is beautiful. So what? Everyone values some physical traits over others. I do think that blond hair and blue eyes are distinctive traits that might stand out, perhaps making other unattractive features that the person has less noticeable. Why is it a concern of yours if some people are more attracted to blond, blue-eyed people? I don't especially care for those traits myself, but it doesn't bother me if other people do. I've heard comments about Asian, Latino, or black women being beautiful, and I'm not offended by it. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. I have red hair and brown eyes, and if there's any group that's not represented in media images of beauty, it's natural redheads. Everyone thinks it's OK to insult us and say that pale skin and red hair are ugly. So what are you complaining about? I see a lot more black women on MTV than redheads, but I realize that we are a very small constituency, and the majority usually rules. I could just as well ask why people automatically assume that darker skin is a marker of beauty, and pale skin is considered unattractive.
