Hey I wanna dye my hair for the first time and i want it to be gray a little help?

I've never died my hair before and will do it soon, but i want to die it gray. Ive always thought people with gray hair with a little bit of black looked awsome. I dunno if you can make your hair gray with black specks or gray at all. Can i just go down to my local sally beauty where all the crazy hair colors are like blue and purple and just pick out gray? If you have a website to order gray die from that would be cool too thanks.

This is NOT something you want to do on your own. In order to lighten hair, you have to pull the color out of the hair. If you are dark haired, the hair will generally pull red (look orange) and you can end up in a REAL mess!

You're not going to go to Sallys or anyplace for that matter and find gray dye. If you really want to do this, go to a GOOD AND REPUTABLE salon/spa.

If you do this on your own, you will regret it I promise you! I've seen too many botched home jobs when I worked in a spa!

oh, I get it - you want to be like Taylor Hicks!! Honestly, I have never seen a hair dye that makes it gray - what color are you starting with? If you go to a salon, they can probably strip the color and make it grayish - but keep in mind that there are lots of different shades of gray - don't go blue!! (Unless you're a Dodger fan?)

Honestly, I always swore I'd never dye my hair. But once I found myself divorced at 30, and my once sandy-blonde hair now mousy brown, I gave in. I've always said, it's not the grey I mind (I've earned every one of those, and then some!), but I have the base color of my hair and how dull it's become.

So I'd be interested in what you're proposing as well, but unfortunately it's not possible. Just as Platinum Blonde is very difficult to achieve and maintain, grey is impossible. They have grey "enhancers" but no actual grey dye. Sorry.

i would go too a hair saloon and explain too them what exactly what you want there, i cant see why in the hell anyone in there right mind would want too have gray hair anywhere etc, it just maskes you look old and dumpy and does nothing for your looks etc if you have gray hair now, and want too die it why woukld you even bother etc, makes no sense here but go see a hair dresserr tel her whjat you want if you go with the dye thing, and gray hair, they are trained too try give you what you want etc, dont do it yourself you need, a hair dreseer at first watch what they do remember it and the next time do it yoursel etc

I'm certain u can dye ur hair just don't kill it (die). Honestly they do have gray colors (although it may be hard to find). Loreal makes the best shelf color. If sally's don't have it I'm sure they can get it for ya. But if I were you I'd get it done professionally especially it being your first time. But Gray YuK

Yeah, you can do it. Best to do it at a salon though... it could potentially be quite time consuming, to get it the perfect 'gray' that you are after.

If you have dark hair now, and are wanting to still have some dark hair, then the best way would be for the hairdresser to give you highlights.

Depending on how dark your hair is depends on how long it will take. Firstly they will have to strip the colour out of your hair using a bleach, this may need to be done, one to three times. It needs to come down to a very very light colour.

When it has come down to a light enough colour, then they will put a 'toner' onto the lightened hair, this in turn will give the hair the 'gray' appearance. Probably with a silver/blue toner, so as to give the illusion of gray.

Unfortunately you will need to get the toner reapplied as it won't stay in the hair permanently. Probably after a couple of weeks or so. If you want a really intense gray, I would suggest you do it more often, to build up the colour.

Talk to your local salon, they are trained to do crazy requests. Don't worry you're not the first to ask for gray hair, I've had many requests for it.

I'm a haistylist of 18 years. first you are going to need to take the color out of your hair. You do this with SCALP bleach. dont buy anykind other than that or it will burn your scalp.Then you want to put Grey in your hair. Look for the shade of grey you want. Let the bleach stay on until it is a very light blonde,test it with water and a towel to see color.Wash it out.DONT SCRATCH your head when washing the bleach out ,just massage.Then apply the grey color.WE call this a toner.It will tone down the blonde and show up grey ,leave on at least 30 minutes.Use 20 volume peroxide with the bleach and 10 Volume with the grey.DONT use an ashe based color,you dont want green hair.use a nutural or violet based color.It shows the base color on the bottle, A-ashe,R-red,V-violet,N-nutural.I would go with the violet. The only way you are going to be able to achieve gray hair as a salt and pepper effect is to grow it yourself. Anything else will not look natural. In fact, it will look very strange. One thing you can do, though, is lighten parts of your hair with a powder bleach product. You would have to lift it to where it was almost white and then put a rinse or semi-permanent silver over the lightener. Go to your local sally and ask the sales lady. She is trained to help you with what you need.
