Is red hair dominant over dark brown?

I have red hair, green eyes, freckles, and dimples. My husband has dark brown(almost black) hair, few freckles, and blue eyes. What are the chances of my unborn baby having red hair

Is red hair dominant over dark brown?

Brown hair is dominant. If your husband has one gene for red hair, there is a 50% chance your baby will have red hair. If he has two brown hair genes, all of your children will have brown hair.

Dark hair and brown (dark) eyes are dominant. Blue eyes are recessive, and I think red hair is also. It is most likely your baby will brown hair and green eyes, but the eyes could also be blue.

Most of the characteristics you describe are recessive.

Brunette features are strongly dominant. You are probably going to have 25% or less of a chance of having a child like that, more or less depending on the father's genes.

Whatever, my husband has green eyes, I have brown and my daughter has my paternal granfather's blue eyes. There's no telling what you'll get. Even when you think you know what they look like they go and change anyway. My daughter's 1 1/2 years and looks different about once a month.

recessive and dominant genes are way out there...it is a real lottery for my wife and I to even guess what our kids will look like..She is a dark Mestizo Brazilian (Portuguese/African/Indian)

and I am white. Our son, we thought, would have a darker complex as a result...nothing even close...Blonde, Blue eyes, Curly hair and light complexion. You never know..she is pregnant again and we again are in the guessing game...:) it is actually really fun :)

I have red hair, green eyes, freckles.

My husband has dark brown(almost black) hair, few freckles, and BROWN eyes.

My baby has the biggest brown eyes you've ever seen (exactly like my husband's spanish mother) and dark brown hair with red highlights. I'm hoping for a red head next time around but despite genetics, its a crapshoot.

Is red hair dominant over dark brown?

the chances are slim. Red hair is recessive (that is why it is so rare)...unless he has relatives with red hair (which would indicate that he may be dominant/recissive) for the trait, then the chances are probably zero.

Is red hair dominant over dark brown?

every one of my children have different shades of blue eyes and two of them are blonde headed me and my husband have dark hair and I have brown eyes so you never Know what your gonna get it will definitely be a surprise

Is red hair dominant over dark brown?

Usually the father determines the eye color, and it seems with my kids that the hair color is up for grabs. I'd probably guess you baby will have dark brown hair because I have red hair and neither of my boys do. I believe true redheads only account for like 4% of the population. Good luck with your baby and congrats!

Here is were a crash course in genetics is needed. Red hair is generally homozygous recessive, meaning that you got a recessive red hair gene from mom, "r" and one from dad, "r" making you, "rr."

This is were it gets tricky. Generally, darker colors in the gene pool have a more dominant hold in the gene pool compared to recessive ones. Lets say your husband is homozygous dominant, meaning he got a black hair from mom, "B" and dad "B." Making him "BB" Therefore, your kid probably won't have red hair. If his black brown hair is heterozygous meaning "Bb" there is a chance for codominance, meaning that one of your "r" and his recessive "b" give your child a possible dark auburn color. The chance is 1 in 4 or a 25% chance of this codominance. Last scenario, your husband may be "bb." and there may be a codominance like before or your child may have red or black brown hair. Either way, you cannot tell what your child's real hair or eye color is right away. Last point, you may even end up with a blonde headed kid, nature can be unpredictable at times. If you don't believe, watch Memoirs of a Geisha, it's a true story about a pure Japanese girl with blue eyes. Also, it helps to know what his parents hair color is because if he had a one black haired parent and one blonde haired parent, you have a higher chance of a kid with red hair or strawberry blonde---this goes back to the heterozygous scenerio. Hope this is helpful.
